Rosynek Week 8 - What do YOU want to do when you're older?

This week I've been asked a total of 5 times what I think I want to do after highschool. And every time, I reply with "I'm not sure." I'm interested in so many things and there are so many opportunities but it's hard to pick just one. I like baking, and I could imagine myself owning my own bakery. But, I could also imagine myself working in an auto shop on cars as a mechanic. I can see myself riding horses for a living, competitively bowling, teaching highschoolers, working to keep the environment healthy... the list goes on. It's a never ending cycle of finding these fields of careers and then seeing how much more there is to do within those fields. My family wants me to be successful and find my own path that makes me happy. I know they are right, but money is also so important in the modern world as well.

Honestly, it is so hard to pick just one thing to pursue. My parents want me to go to college right away and move somewhere I can stay on campus, but I'm truly not feeling that at the moment. I know I have a little bit more time to figure out generally what I want to do but it feels like it is coming so quick. We're juniors. With the pandemic, it felt like the end of the year and summer was just a dull blur and it's been so long since quarantine first started. I'm not prepared to figure out what I want to do yet but I'm sure I will figure it out. I can do what makes me happy. There's got to be something for all of us, right?

I am hoping within the next year or two I can shadow people in different careers I'm interested in to see if it would be something I would really enjoy doing as an everyday job.

  1. yes! shadowing is a great opportunity to test whether or not you see yourself pursuing that career because sometimes we might have a passion for something but ending up not liking the job atmosphere, etc... I wish you luck in this career search I believe that most people are going through the same things, because I certainly am. and can relate to your currents state of confusion and indecision.
