Tayi Week 8 - Binging

I have never been interested in cooking before. Being a picky eater has always been something I've been known for within my family and has influenced my reason to not cook. Every visit to any restaurant is the same meal that any small child would want. It does get on my nerves sometimes when my family comments on how simple the dish I ordered is. This semester I reluctantly took Foods I. To be honest, I'm not sure what I could have been thinking when I signed up for it last year.

Recently, a video popped up in my recommendations on youtube. It was a clip of Gordon Ramsay yelling at his chefs. If you have ever watched Gordon Ramsay before, you should know that he is probably the scariest person you could ever meet (when he is mad at you). This led to a spiral of watching Gordon Ramsay clips all day. As scary as he is, it's so entertaining watching his clips and I have now moved on to watching his show Hell’s Kitchen.

I have been binging it all week and I do not plan to stop. For some reason, watching him yell at people is extremely entertaining. If you think that is weird, you have to trust me and just watch a few clips and you'll understand. My mom has noticed me binging and started teasing me because I have always made fun of her for watching cooking shows.

Although I watch Gordon Ramsay for the entertainment part of the show, I am starting to gain a new appreciation for cooking. I have never cooked anything past a microwave, but because of Foods I and Hell’s Kitchen, I now understand that cooking is not something to be underestimated and the foods I may be reluctant to eat may have a lot more work put into it than meets the eye.

  1. I agree, his show Hells Kitchen is very entertaining. It also showed me that theres a ton of factors that go into cooking than I thought, and theres so much I havent been exposed to yet. Its also helped me learn about various cultures around the world and the different ways they cook.

  2. I think that sometimes in order to really appreciate a show you need to spread it out over time. However I also understand that sometimes it just feels nice to waste a day watching the entirety of a show.

  3. If anything, that guy shouldn’t just introduce cool foods an proper restaurant management, but also cooking techniques. Like chopping, suggestions and advice. Maybe he should make a show about it! :)
