Ellis Week 8 - Search for a Puppy

Over the past year, my family and I have been extremely invested in getting another puppy. I have had 5 boxers throughout my life, and I’m really interested in wanting another. We have a four year old boxer currently, Scout, and I think she would thrive and honestly be a lot happier with a friend. (At least that’s what I’ve been saying to convince my parents… who knows if she’d actually be willing to share the attention.)

Over quarantine is when this puppy search really began, and let me tell you we went on EVERY website possible. Boxers are decently big dogs, and my mom wanted a smaller one, so we were looking up french bulldog and shorkie rescues (a shorkie is a mix of a shih tzu and yorkie). Not only are frenchies extremely expensive, but they tend to have a lot of health issues as they grow. Shorkies on the other hand are adorable, but not very common around here.  We searched for other dogs too like Boston Terriers, Yorkies, and Chihuahuas, but none of them fit every category that we're looking for.

My sister and I spent hours at a time (because what else would we do in lock down) trying to find a puppy near us, and it still hasn’t happened. Last week I mentioned the idea of just rescuing another boxer because they’re easier to get around here, and a lot of them need homes. I am not sure my mom was the biggest fan of this idea, considering that's all we have ever had, but I hope I'm able to convince her that this is the best option since I really, really want another puppy.

  1. I think one of the most positive things that covid has brought is homes to so many animals. So many people got (what is being called) a quarantine pet. I think that it is a great idea because as you said there are so many that need a home and now that we are used to the life at home it allows for more people to be open to the idea of getting a pet. I hope you are able to find a puppy that fits all of your families needs and scouts too!

  2. I've tried to convince my parents SO many times to get another dog, but honestly it hasn't worked out.... yet. Knowing that you are giving an animal a new home is one of the most rewarding things, in my opinion. I love knowing that someone is giving that animal a nice life, it deserves. Plus, who doesn't love puppies lol.
