I’ve noticed recently that whenever it rains I really struggle to motivate myself to complete tasks or do schoolwork. Typically I enjoy the rain in the spring, and it’s somewhat comforting to me. Though the past few times it’s rained, I just haven’t had any motivation to get my schoolwork done. I don’t know if it’s because of the gloomy, dark skies or because we have online work to do and it’s almost the end of the school year. Either way, I’ve just felt a lot less motivated to do any schoolwork lately.
I did some research and apparently, there’s been a lot of studies on weather and productivity linkage. There have been mixed results, but there were a few common themes across the studies. One of them was that hot, sunny weather increases productivity but it actually demotivates people from doing work since they’re distracted by outdoor activities. So although you may feel more productive and happier on sunny days, you’re less likely to get any work done because you’re preoccupied with the warm weather.
Another theme was that cold, rainy weather decreases productivity but people tend to work more on those days because there isn’t much to look forward to or do on a rainy day. So although you may feel very unmotivated, there’s more of a chance that you’ll still get your work done by the end of the day since there’s nothing else to do. This, of course, doesn’t apply to everyone and is just a generalization, but I thought that it was interesting and fit with today’s rainy weather. Plus, I feel like I can relate to this since I usually get distracted by the warm weather when it nears the end of the school year.
I feel the exact same. Whenever it rains I never want to do anything at all. It makes me unmotivated, tired, and grumpy. For example, today it has rained all day and I took a 3 hour nap. It wasn't the most productive idea but I did it anyways.
