Apruzzi - Week 5 - Therapy

Something that bothers me the most in this world is the fact that reaching out for help, otherwise known as therapy, is something that people hold back from doing or are afraid of talking about it. Then again, I am definitely a person who has little to no filter, I find joy in revealing information that could, well, get me into some dilemmas. I say this to simply express that it may just be hard for me to understand the thought processes of non-expressive individuals. Anyways, therapy is an incredible way of venting your problems without feeling like a burden, and nobody should feel ashamed to reach out for it.

With some extensive research, I found that fear and judgment are the main causes of why therapy is frowned upon. With fear, many individuals shy away from the possibility of finding out they suffer from mental health or are having abnormal feelings in any way. With judgment, as talked about before, people are embarrassed to reach out for therapy due to society's expected judgment. This is outrageous to me. This is because mental health is not something that is entirely abnormal, actually, most teenagers and well, human beings, suffer from multiple mental health issues. In fact, my friends and I constantly joke about our mental health issues and the number of therapists we've been through. It is completely normal.

Overall, I feel as though individuals should no longer be afraid to reach out for someone or something to talk to due to their fear of judgment from society. Mental health dilemmas are something completely normal.

  2. You're completely right. Especially with COVID-19 keeping everyone isolated it can be really hard to deal with things on your own so it is crucial to have at least one person you can talk to. A ton of people in my extended family go to therapy for anxiety or OCD and they joke about it too which makes them feel less alone.

  3. I completely agree with you. I hate the stigma that surrounds mental health and simply seeking help when you need it. It should be normalized, especially in times like these when everyone must not be feeling their best.
