They first made their appearance in the culinary scene in the 1960s. The first known fried pickle recipe was called "French Fried Pickles," that used sweet pickle slices and pancake mix. A man named Bernell ("Fatman") Austin began creating a recipe for fried dill pickles in Atkins, Arkansas in 1963. That secret recipe is kept only by the family. It is used once each year at "Picklefest" in May in Atkins.
They have become increasingly popular as time goes on. They are seen as appetizers or to accompany dishes. They are frequently served with ranch dressing, but can also be eaten with other creamy dressings. Before ranch dressing was introduced, the Fatman used ketchup. Some chains that offer fried pickles are Chili's, Texas Roadhouse, Hooters, and Buffalo Wild Wings.
Fried foods in themselves are good.. in moderation. Fried pickles have a high fat intake and 700+ mg of sodium. A simple serving from a restaurant or a recipe is good enough for one day.

He had given out 1 million pickle pins by the end of the fair, and repeated the process. By the 2010s, Americans were eating more than 2 million pounds of pickles a year.

Personally I hate pickles, I think nothing of them other than as sea cucumbers. but they are a culmination of humanities achievements with preservation of food. That I believe is there only redeeming quality, but I could see why people like pickles. I think that though a fried pickle might be up my ally if I got rid of the pickle part. Cause like any other person on the planet fried food is a double edged sword that I don't care about whatsoever. Like I know its bad for me but I don't care at all, if I die by way of fried food I know I've lived a fulfilling life.
ReplyDeleteI thought your blog about pickles was really interesting to read. I definitely learned a lot of new things about the history of pickles that I never knew. I personally love pickles. I used to hate them, but my dad is obsessed with them for some reason and comes home every week with 3 new containers of spicy pickles, and they grew on me. I don't know where he gets all of the pickles but there are so many in my fridge
